A REAL NANTUCKET WEDDING

Kelley & Terry, September 8, 2007

Kelley & Terry - A Real Nantucket WeddingKelley and Terry originally met back in college, through mutual friends. However, it was not until ten years later, while they were both on Nantucket with groups of friends, that they "re-met" and began dating. At the time, Terry was in graduate school at Cornell and Kelley was building her jewelry design business, KEP Designs, in New York City.

In Terry’s words, “When it came time to start time plotting, or should I say planning, how I would ask Kelley to marry me, I knew she was a woman who had thought of how she would be proposed to since the age of 5. I wanted the proposal to be exactly how she had dreamed. I knew that involved asking her while we were on a beach, on Nantucket. While we were out on the island celebrating our Two Year Anniversary, I took her out to Great Point for a surprise picnic. After having spent the better part of six months convincing Kelley our engagement would not come until later down the road, I proposed on the spot.”

Kelley & Terry - A Real Nantucket WeddingWhen it came time to start planning their wedding (which, according to Terry, started three minutes after she accepted his proposal) Kelley and Terry both knew that they could celebrate their marriage no other place than Nantucket. They considered Maine and Vermont, but Nantucket is such a special place for them, individually and together, and the island has played such an enormous role in their lives that it was the obvious choice for their special day.

Most of their friends and family arrived in the middle of the week to take time to enjoy the island and kick off the wedding festivities Nantucket style. The celebration started with a clam bake on the beach catered by Spanky and Bartlett’s Farm. A “welcome sunset” dinner was catered by Kendra Lockley and Simply with Style Catering. Having a lobster-themed dinner with a raw bar and lobster rolls, all at Cap'n Tobey's, was the highlight of the Rehearsal Dinner.

Kelley was stunning in a dress by Carolina Herrera, shoes by Manolo Blahnik, and her own KEP Design Jewelry. Vineyard Vines decked out the men in the wedding party with their special brand of apparel and accessories. Floral design created by Dawn Kelly of Soiree Floral provided a lovely visual display. Highland Drivers transported the couple in style to the truly amazing reception at the Summer House in ‘Sconset, where Sperry Tents of Nantucket’s elegant, hand-crafted tent formed the backdrop for a unique setting. The wedding cake was also provided by Simply with Style Catering.

It was truly, Kelley and Terry say, “the wedding of our dreams in the place that holds a large part of both of our hearts.” Zofia Photography captured the essence of those dreams in her evocative wedding photos of Kelley and Terry’s Nantucket wedding.
